Hey folks,

So heat 3 is done, and the winners to emerge from the metal fayre on offer were Belfast’s own Interrogate. The judge’s selection went to a band from the far reaches of Ireland’s south-west, S.H.I.T. (So Hardcore It’s Terrifying). Congratulations go to both bands, and commiserations to Languished and A Distant Sun, both of whom gave solid performances.

And so we come to the final heat, this Friday July 3rd, with arguably the fiercest competition yet. 4 contenders will go head to head for the last slot in the final, and they are:

Darkest Era www.myspace.com/darkestera
Devil Makes 3 www.myspace.com/devilmakesthree
Overoth www.myspace.com/overoth
Residual Effect www.myspace.com/residualeffect

This should be one hell of a heat, so make sure you’re there, this Friday, 8.30. As usual we will offer a refund from the price of the door tax for any metro tickets used to get you to us, which amounts to a free bus, and of course Jager shots will be £2 all night.

With a line up like that, cheap drink and free transport, what more do you need? See y’all there…

Hey all,

So Heat 2 is done, and we were graced by an old friend at the Rosie to help us out for the night (if you weren’t there I’m not telling!), and we’ve added to the list of winners and wildcard selections by two. As selected by the judges alone, the wilcard of the evening went to Cursed Sun, after a heartfelt, loud, energetic set and some audience interaction that must have left their lead singer in need of a cup of tea and a bit of a lie down after…or possibly refuelling with some buckfast, I’m not sure but he looked like the type.

The winners of the heat as voted for by the audience and the judges were the funky as fuck Niyah Sky, with one hell of a vocal, a well-rehearsed set with some seriously groovy riffs, and a hard-working attitude, which won them a slot in our final on July 18th. Well done to both bands, and commiserations to Of One Blood and Fatality, but there’s always next year, and gigs at the Rosie in between!

And so we come to heat 3, with another fine selection of local (to Ireland, that is) talent:
Languished - www.myspace.com/languishedband
A Distant Sun - www.myspace.com/adistantsun
S.H.I.T. - www.myspace.com/sohardcoreitsterrifying
Interrogate - www.myspace.com/interrogate

Have a gander at their myspace pages and see what you think, and then saddle up your pony and mosey down to the Rosie — that rhymed way more than I meant it to — on June 26th to witness these guys duke it out for a slot in the aforementioned final, where Simon Hall of Bloodstock will be joining us to judge (and will be looking for a good aul piss-up afterwards, as it’s the last regional final throughout the UK and Ireland!).

June 26th, doors at 8.30, damage £5 but we’ll refund any one-way metro tickets used to get you to us, which amounts to a FREE BUS! Be there or miss the £2 jager y’all! Very Happy

Hey again all,

So heat 1 is done, and congratulations to last night’s winners, Existing Threat, and to the wildcard selection, Sadisture, and thanks to all the bands for taking part and putting on such a good show. Turnout was a bit lower than hoped for but given the level of hangovers after the Firebird gig on Friday it wasn’t a total surprise! And of course we’re hoping that with the word out now we’ll get a few more revellers at the next one this Friday.

Competing bands be aware that the audience vote, while only 30% of the total, is still a significant portion of the marks. The judges may have 70% but that’s divided between all 4 of them so bringing your supporters can really have an effect on your chances! And of course we want more folks at the gigs, so it works out well for all of us if you bring all yer fans Smile

I’m aware that there has been a lot of rumours milling about, excuse the pun, as to the state of this competition, and yes, it almost didn’t make it in Ireland this year, but we caught it just in time. While admittedly a bit more hurried than we would have liked, we’ve still managed to squeeze in 4 heats and a big ol final come July 18th, and heat 2 is this Friday, June 12th, featuring:

Fatality - www.myspace.com/fatalityriffs
Of One Blood - www.myspace.com/ofonebloodband
Niyah Sky - www.myspace.com/niyahsky
Cursed Sun - www.myspace.com/cursedsunmetal

Doors are at 8.30 and tax is £5, but if you get a metro bus from within Belfast down to the Rosie we’ll refund one single fare off your door cover, so technically, that’s a FREE BUS! Check the metro timetables here, routes 7, 29, 30, 77, 78 & 79 all come to or near the Rosie at some point during the week from the city centre, cheaper than a taxi in these harsh economic times!

Oh, and of course Jager shots are £2 throughout the comp, and we have lovely Jager promo stuff lined up for you to ogle! (Male & female, just so’s you know…)

So, come down, check out any or all of the heats, keep an eye on our wesbite rosettabar.com (currently under development, but due for completion shortly!) for our gig listings including this Thursday’s Godhate tour, and of course, make sure you’re there for the Metal 2 the Masses final where Simon Hall from Bloodstock will be judging our 5 selections and choosing a winner to play the unsigned stage at Bloodstock Open Air ‘09. Roll on the good times y’all…

Fionn Smile

Aloha,

So our judging panel have chosen the first four competitors for Metal 2 the Masses at the Rosie, and these guys will go head to head on June 6th down at the Rosie. They are:

Existing Threat - www.myspace.com/existingthreat
Decayor - www.myspace.com/decayordie
Sadisture - www.myspace.com/sadisture
Hybris - www.myspace.com/hybris1

Check out their pages and come support them at the gig, one winner will get through to the final based on the judges & audience votes, while one band will be listed as a wildcard based on the judges’ decision alone. Each of the other 3 heats will run the same way, so come the end of the heats we will have 4 finalists and 4 wildcard selections. The judges will then decide which one of the four wildcards also deserves a slot in the final alongside the 4 other finalists, so it’s competition all the way.

DOORS: 8.30
TAX: 5
RUNNING ORDER: Confirmed on the night as part of the competition

BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR are offering venues and bands the opportunity take the stage at Bloodstock 2009 through a number of regional ‘battle of the band’ competitions, and in Northern Ireland it’s happening in the only place it should, the Rosie. Yes folks, she’s back…

After a brief hiatus from the metal music scene the Rosie is back in business, so to speak, and to kick off our period of revival we bring you Metal 2 The Masses, your chance to land a slot in the upcoming BOA metal music festival in Derby, August 14-16 2009.

After the success of last year’s Metal 2 The Masses BOA is back to celebrate the 2009 BOA festival, quite simply the best in metal entertainment and a showcase for the finest breakthrough talent throughout the UK. With Bloodstock Open Air being the most committed event to highlight breakthrough metal it’s understandable why it’s endorsed and supported by the likes of their exclusive media partner Metal Hammer, alongside others such as Terrorizer, Kerrang, Scuzz, Rockworld, Total Rock and BBC Online. Which means for all you potential winners that they’re offering extensive editorial features, interviews, reviews, broadcasts, website coverage, e-fliers, blogs and so much more for the successful bands, making this a year-round initiative and promotional opportunity.

Additionally they’ve ensured all local, regional and national media will be specifically alerted and invited to cover M2TM to maintain Bloodstock’s commitment to venues and bands alike. Not only that, every band featured in the M2TM tour will receive profile coverage on the associated Bloodstock websites.

So what does it mean to you, the bands? Well, this is this your chance to play at Bloodstock in front of thousands, and if you land yourselves a place to play in 2009 then you also stand the chance of playing the main stage in 2010. Yes that’s right, this is not a one year dash – Bloodstock are offering all acts that play the 2009 festival (and have entered via the Metal 2 The Masses campaign), the opportunity of opening up the main stage the following year. Take the example of bands such as “Evile” who started of by gracing the second stage their first time round only to go on to support Megadeth on a major UK tour and return to grace the Bloodstock main stage in 2008. Just so’s we don’t trample all over a trademark, let’s just say that it REALLY could be you…

With only 20 slots available nationwide via the Metal 2 The Masses campaign, the attention will be focused on musical ability, performance, professionalism and raw power. And just so’s we’re clear, this is a competition for metal acts of all genres – therefore rock, pop, rap, indie and other nonsense need not apply!

For each of the five nominated bands at the regional final (Belfast’s being on July 18th) they get to showcase their act and if the Bloodstock crew think more than 1 act are worthy of a place at the 2009 event then they’ll make it happen – it’s about the music not rules and regulations! Likewise if it is thought that the bands at any one event did not make the grade, then the unallocated slots will go back into the BOA pot for our team to consider accordingly.

In order to get to the final, you will need to compete in one of our 4 heats, beginning in June (dates below). Each heat will produce one winner and one wildcard selection, as voted for by the judging panel and the audience at the gig. By the final there will be four heat winners and four wildcard selections, at which point the judges will choose the best of the wildcard selections to go through to the final in the 5th slot. It’s not as complicated as it sounds, and it leaves a little room to be sure we’ve got the right line-up for the final.

So if you want the chance to take the stage at the Bloodstock Open Air music festival 2009, via a couple of performances on the revered stage of the Rosie, then drop us an email to register your interest. You’ll need to include a link to your MySpace or other website where we can check out your work, or give us a number to call you on to arrange an alternative method to check out your work. Short-listing for the heats will be at the judges discretion, but if you’re succesful we’ll let you know, and the dates for the competition are as follows:

Heat 1 - June 6th
Heat 2 - June 12th
Heat 3 - June 26th
Heat 4 - July 3rd
Final - July 18th

We say give it a go, luck favours the brave and all that. Looking forward to hearing from you…
